Happy Birthday, DHS President Bush commemorated the five-year anniversary of the Department of Homeland Security on Thursday by thanking the front-line employees and leadership for protecting the country from any terrorist attacks.
   “The most important legacy we can leave behind is a commitment to remain vigilant. With the passage of time, the memories of September the 11th have grown more distant. For some, there is temptation to think that the threats to our country have grown distant, as well. They haven’t. And our job is to never forget the threat — and to implement strategies that will protect the homeland from those who seek us harm,” Bush said.
   Bush singled out Tom Ridge, the first Homeland Secretary, and his successor, Michael Chertoff, for laying the institutional foundation for future administrations to keep the United States safe.
