Heavy-duty mobile crane for Madagascar port Madagascar International Container Terminal Services Ltd., owned by the Filipino group International Container Terminal Services Inc., has commissioned a third heavy-duty mobile crane to boost the quayside handling power at the Toamasina container terminal.
   Container volumes at the Indian Ocean port of Toamasina are expected to double in the next few years, and ICTSI is investing about $36 million upgrading the terminal, after securing it via a government privatization program in 2005.
   MICTSL spent over $4 million on the new Gottwald GHMK 6407 mobile crane, which offers a maximum outreach of 51 meters (167.3 feet).
   In addition, MICTSL acquired a Bromma twin-lift spreader for use with the new crane, which is able to simultaneously lift two 20-foot containers. The twin-lift facility is believed to be the first introduced into service in the region.
