Historic Coast Guard tall ship visiting Miami The historic Coast Guard tall ship Eagle is scheduled to sail into the Port of Miami Friday morning, and will be open for free public tours throughout the weekend.
   The Eagle will be moored at Bicentennial Park, on Biscayne Boulevard not far from the entrance to the Port of Miami. It is the only active, square-rigged sailing vessel in the U.S. fleet, and is used for training Coast Guard cadets. Training exercises include navigation, line handling, firefighting, first aid and damage control procedures. The Coast Guard also uses the ship to train cadets in team work and to build confidence, with cadets climbing more than 130 feet above deck to set, haul in and maintain sails.
   The 295-foot, three-masted Eagle was built in the early 20th century, when sailing ships where being phased out of the U.S. fleet. It is the seventh in a line of ships with the same name, dating back to 1790.
