Hong Kong July volume hits two-year high

Hong Kong July volume hits two-year high    Container volume at the Port of Hong Kong grew 9.7 percent in July versus the same month in 2009, the Hong Kong Port Development Council reported this week.
   The growth was lower than the 15.4 percent growth in the first half, a sign that trade to Europe and North America has slowed — but also an indication that trade had picked up in mid-2009, making comparisons with this year less favorable.
   The port handled 2.1 million TEUs in July, and for the year through July has handled 13.4 million TEUs, 14.5 percent more than through the first seven months of 2009.
   Despite the slowing growth, July saw Hong Kong handle more containers than in any one month since 2008.
