Hong Kong’s box volumes up 2% in 2005
The port of Hong Kong handled 22.4 million TEUs in 2005, up 2 percent compared to 2004, making it the world’s second-busiest port behind Singapore, which last week reported throughput of 23.2 million TEUs for 2005.
Hong Kong’s Kwai Chung container terminal posted year-on-year volume growth of 6.4 percent to 14.3 million TEUs. The port’s other terminals reported a 4.9 percent decline in volume to 8.1 million TEUs in 2005.
