Horizon Lines adds containers
Horizon Lines said Monday it would add about 12,500 new containers to its international and domestic shipping network to support existing customers and its new China service.
Beginning Dec. 13, Horizon Lines will launch a weekly liner service, the Five Star Express, with port calls at Shanghai and Ningbo in Central China; and Los Angeles and Oakland, Calif. Horizon had chartered eastbound slots on its Asia service to Maersk.
Horizon’s five 2,824-TEU capacity Hunter Class vessels will offer weekly service with an 11-day port-to-port transit from Shanghai to Los Angeles. Westbound, the ships call in Hawaii and Guam.
“Market receptivity to our new service remains very strong and as of today, we are now over 45 percent subscribed on the first sailing,” said Brian Taylor, senior vice president of international services at Horizon.
