Horizon Lines hosts security exercise

Horizon Lines hosts security exercise Horizon Lines said Thursday its Puerto Rico unit completed its hosting of an Army National Guard security exercise at Horizon's facility at the Puerto Nuevo section of the Port of San Juan.
   The Puerto Rico trade carrier was working with the 22nd Weapons of Mass Destruction Civil Support Team. The exercise included the National Guard, the U.S. Coast Guard, the FBI, and members of Horizon Lines' safety and security management team.
   The exercise was based around the response to a simulation of a possible radioactive reading aboard a containership. The vessel Horizon Producer was used for the exercise, and members of the crew, along with terminal personnel, participated with the government responders.
   'This exercise is a great opportunity for the U.S. military and other agencies to prepare in what may be an unfamiliar environment; gaining valuable experience on how to respond to a real incident aboard a vessel,' said Gabriel Serra, senior vice president and general manager for Horizon Lines of Puerto Rico.
