Horizon Lines names directors

Jones Act carrier Horizon Lines has named two new members to its board of directors, including Alex Mandl, who once headed Sea-Land Service, a corporate ancestor of Horizon Lines.

Mandl, executive chairman of the board of Gemalto, a Netherlands-based company that provides digital communications security products and services, was named a Class I director after a shareholders' meeting in Charlotte, N.C. Tuesday.

Horizon's board also named Thomas Stoors, senior executive director, corporate planning and control, and a director for the Tokyo-based Takata Corp., as a Class III director.

The board also reappointed the company's executive officers, including Charles G. 'Chuck' Raymond as chairman, president and chief executive officer.

The shareholders earlier in the day confirmed retired Navy Adm. Vern Clark, a former member of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, as a Class II director. The board nominated him on Jan. 30.

In addition, the shareholders elected three other Class II directors who were already on the board: Dan Colussy, chairman of Iridium Satellite and a former airline executive; William Flynn, president and CEO of Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings, and a former executive with CSX Corp. and Sea-Land; and Francis Jungers, an independent investor, consultant, and a director for several major companies, as well as former chairman and CEO of Arabian American Oil Co.
