Horizon Lines ship helps rescue of Chinese seafarers off Guam    Horizon Lines’ new 2,824-TEU containership, Horizon Falcon, last week helped in a rescue operation of Chinese seafarers 375 miles northwest of Guam.
   The rescue effort took place over a 24-hour period on July 12-13 after the 420-foot Panamanian-flagged log carrier, Hai Tong No. 7, sank in rough seas due to a typhoon in the area. The 22-man crew spent two days in the water before the Horizon Lines ship arrived on the scene before noon on July 12.
   The U.S. Coast Guard suspended the search operation on July 15 after 13 survivors had been rescued.
   “Ever since man has been going to sea, there has been danger. But there also has been and will ever be brotherhood at sea that crosses any boundary. This rescue effort is a shining example of that,” said Charles G. Raymond, Horizon Lines’ chairman, president and chief executive officer.
