Horizon Lines suspends one Jacksonville/San Juan loop

Horizon Lines is suspending one of its three weekly Jacksonville/San Juan shuttle services by bringing forward by several weeks the dry-docking of the 1,404-TEU vessel “Horizon Discovery.”

Horizon Lines said it made the decision in order to “perform critical boiler maintenance repairs stateside in August.” The carrier expects the work to be complete prior to the summer holiday period.

The last southbound sailing of the “Midweek Jacksonville Express (MJX)” will depart from Jacksonville June 9. Horizon Lines will continue to operate its existing Tuesday and Friday weekly sailings from Jacksonville to San Juan. If demand exceeds historical norms during the period the “MJX” is suspended, the carrier said it would phase in another Horizon Lines vessel into the trade as required.

The “MJX” will resume with the southbound sailing from Jacksonville by the vessel “Horizon Challenger” Sept. 1.
