Horowitz joins port of Portland    The port of Portland has hired Barry Horowitz to become its general manager of container marketing, effective July 29.
   His role will be to work to increase the volume of containerized freight moving through the port with particular focus on imports. Only one transpacific container service currently calls at the upriver Oregon port, which has lost carrier business in the past two years.
   Horowitz’s 35-year career spans a full range of international transportation, logistics and supply chain management activities. He comes to the port from his position as president of CMS Consulting Services, and has previously worked as director of international transportation for Nike Inc., general manager, Europe for Danzas AEI, and vice president of supply chain management service provider Direct Line Cargo Management Services.
   His earlier experience includes senior positions in pricing, marketing and sales with Hapag-Lloyd and Zim, as well as experience in forwarding and customs brokerage.
