Houston approves new port director
The Houston Port Commission on Tuesday approved Alec G. Dreyer as executive director of the Port of Houston Authority.
Dreyer, a former energy industry executive, was named one month ago as the selection committee's top choice to head the port authority, pending final approval by the board.
Dreyer is Houston's 11th port director in 90 years and the first to come from outside the maritime industry.
He replaces Thomas Kornegay, who retired in February after 17 years at the port authority's helm. Wade Battles has served as acting executive director for the past eight months.
