Hurd appointed USDA’s head of food safety

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has appointed H. Scott Hurd to deputy undersecretary for food safety.

   He will responsible for the USDA’s public health programs involving nation’s supply of meat, poultry and processed eggs products.

   Prior to this appointment, Hurd was an associate professor at the Iowa State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine for the past three years. From 1989 to 2004, he served in the USDA’s Agricultural Research Service and Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service.
