Hysea hits a flat

HySea Shipping, a new service between Puerto Cortes, Honduras, and Port Manatee, Fla., has ended after a single northbound voyage.

Mark Jordan, owner of the carrier, said he encountered delays and higher-than-expected costs in ports, crew difficulties, which “coupled with the situation that the world is in at the moment was enough to say we cannot continue.”

The company’s ship, Rio Magdelena, made a single voyage from Honduras.

“There was not sufficient cargo. Everyone was talking but no one was coming up with real cargo. We decided we would rather pull the plug and lay up,” Jordan said.

The ship is under arrest in Port Manatee, and Jordan said he is looking to either sell outright or arrange for a bareboat hire purchase of the general cargo ship, which has 181 TEUs of container capacity.
