ICC names Carrier secretary general
The Paris-based International Chamber of Commerce on Monday elected Jean-Guy Carrier to secretary general.
Carrier has served as acting secretary general of the ICC since July 2010. He is also director of programs for the ICC's Research Foundation.
He has led various research-based publishing and public information programs, notably for the World Trade Organization from 1996 to 2008 where he was publisher and chief editor. He set up the WTO Reference Center program, a network of computerized WTO information and research centers in the trade ministries of more than 100 developing countries.
Carrier has also held senior positions with the International Institute for Systems Analysis in Vienna, the Economic Council of Canada, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. and global communications consulting firms.
Harold McGraw III, chairman of the U.S. Council for International Business and president and chief executive officer of The McGraw-Hill Cos., becomes ICC vice-chairman. He replaces Stephen Green, former chairman of HSBC, who has moved on to become trade minister for the U.K. government.
