Iceland volcano halts European air traffic

   Fears that ash thrown up by a massive volcano eruption in Iceland could damage aircraft engines brought northern Europe air traffic to a halt Thursday.

   The BBC said all flights in and out of the United Kingdom have been suspended as ash from a volcanic eruption in Iceland moves south.

   It added the European Organization for the Safety of Air Navigation, Eurocontrol has said up to 4,000 flights across northern Europe would be canceled on Thursday.
