iGPS earns FM 4996 certification for all-plastic pallets

Intelligent Global Pooling System, operator of the world’s first radio-frequency identification-tagged all-plastic pallet pool, received approval and certification from FM Global, a commercial and industrial property insurance firm.

The approval was granted after the iGPS pallet underwent “big burn” fire tests, in addition to a number of other tests conducted on the plastic pallets. The pallet’s FM approval follows UL 2335 certification from Underwriters Laboratories in 2007.

“This approval establishes unequivocally that our pallet meets the high fire retardant standards of FM Global, an important authority in the eyes of insurance professionals,” said Bob Moore, chief executive officer of iGPS, in a statement.

iGPS pallets are used by a number of large shippers, such as QTG (Quaker Tropicana Gatorade), the Chicago-based division of PepsiCo, Dole Fresh Vegetables, Imperial Sugar, Pilgrim’s Pride, and Martori Farms.
