India identifies $285 million in port projects

The Indian Department of Shipping this week identified $285 million worth of major seaport projects to be completed under the country’s National Maritime Development Program first launched in winter 2005.

The money is earmarked for 276 projects involving construction and upgrade of berths, deepening of channels, rail/road connectivity links and equipment upgrades. The projects are scheduled for completion by 2012.

Sixty-two percent of the money for the projects would come from the private sector, according to the Minister of Shipping, Road Transport and Highways, Shri T.R. Baalu.
