Ingram expands fleet

Ingram Barge Co. said Monday it has acquired 92 barges from an affiliate of Ospraie Special Opportunities Fund.

The acquired units, built from 2004 to 2008, are 17 tank barges with 10,000-barrel capacity, 62 jumbo covered hopper barges with fiber lift covers, and 13 jumbo open hopper barges.

Nashville-based Ingram, with a fleet of more than 100 line-haul towboats and more than 4,000 barges, is the nation’s largest barge company.

Craig Philip, Ingram’s chief executive officer, said the new equipment would “enhance our ability to provide dry-cargo and tank barge transportation services to our growing customer base.'

Ingram plans to use the tank barges in a variety of liquid trades, and the hopper barges for the grain, utility and various other dry cargo trades.

Ospraie Special Opportunities Fund is an investment fund affiliate of Ospraie Management LLC, which is located in New York City.
