Inland waterway interests honor Oberstar The Waterways Council has named Rep. James Oberstar, chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, as the recipient of its 2007 Leadership Service Award.
   The Minnesota Democrat is being honored for his large role in Congress’ override of President Bush’s veto of the Water Resources Development Act, which became law in November.
   WRDA authorizes expenditures of $23 billion for hundreds of water resources projects such as harbor dredging, improvement of inland waterway locks and dams, hurricane protection and restoration of the Everglades.
   The Waterways Council is an advocacy organization for inland waterway carriers, shippers, port authorities and other groups.
