International box traffic up 27% at Fraser Port    Fraser River Port, the Canadian port located south of Vancouver, British Columbia, handled 27 percent more international containers in the first nine months of the year, for a total of 234,000 TEUs.
   Inbound international box traffic climbed 28 percent to about 123,000 TEUs in the nine-month period, while the number of outbound international containers rose 25 percent to about 112,000 TEUs.
   Fraser River Port’s international cargo throughput for the first nine months of 2004 increased 13 percent to 4.4 million tons, including all commodity types. Imports rose 22 percent to 2 million tons, with exports going up 6 percent to 2.4 million tons. In particular, the Fraser river port authority reported a 39-percent rise in general cargo imports to about 928,000 tons for the January-September period, as well as an 82-percent jump in general cargo exports to 718,000 tons in the same period.
   Although small in the field of container shipping, Fraser River Port is Canada’s second busiest port based on total cargo volume.
