Intertanko opens Brussels office, welcomes IMO’s MARPOL changes

Intertanko, the London-based association of independent tanker owners, has set up a representative office in Brussels to get “closer to the European regulators and decision makers.”

Meanwhile, the association has welcomed the International Maritime Organization's revisions to MARPOL Annex VI, which will reduce permissible sulfur levels from 2010 in a bid to lower ships’ harmful emissions.

'There are clear winners from this outcome,' said Intertanko's Managing Director Peter Swift. 'At the end of the day, these are the environment, the many people affected by air pollution from ships, and thousands of seafarers worldwide.'
