Irish Continental Group marine operations report strong 2015 results

The shipping company’s Container and Terminal Division, which consists of intermodal shipping line Eucon and two container terminals in Ireland, posted revenues of 118.2 million euros for 2015, a 10.5 percent increase from 2014.    Irish Continental Group’s Container and Terminal Division, which consists of intermodal shipping line Eucon, and two container terminals – Dublin Ferryport Terminals and Belfast Container Terminal (BCT) – posted revenues of 118.2 million euros (U.S. $129.5 million) for 2015, a 10.5 percent increase from 2014.
The division’s earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) totaled 11.8 million euros for 2015, while its EBIT reached 9.1 million euros, year-over-year increases of 59.5 percent and 93.6 percent, respectively, which Irish Continental Group largely attributed to the increased volumes in Eucon and the terminal operations, along with reduced fuel costs.
The Container and Terminal Division’s container volumes inched up 3.4 percent year-over-year in 2015 to 286,500 TEUs.
In April 2015, the Belfast Harbour Commissioners awarded a services concession to BCT for the operation of a combined container terminal at Victoria Terminal 3. The process of combining Belfast Port’s two container terminals began in June and was completed in September. The consolidation contributed to the 146.4 percent year-over-year increase in BCT’s lifts.
Irish Continental Group’s shipping line Eucon specializes in container transport between Ireland, the United Kingdom and the European mainland. In addition to the Container and Terminal Division, Irish Continental Group also includes its Ferries Division.
