ITC investigates duty-free impact of textile, apparel imports from Nepal

The U.S. International Trade Commission is seeking input for a new investigation concerning whether certain textile and apparel articles from Nepal are import sensitive.    The U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) is seeking input for a new investigation concerning whether certain textile and apparel articles from Nepal are import sensitive.
   The investigation, Nepal: Advice Concerning Whether Certain Textile and Apparel Articles Are Import Sensitive, was requested by the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative in a letter received on March 30.
   The ITC, an independent factfinding agency, is seeking advice on the likely impact on U.S. imports, competing U.S. industries, and U.S. consumers of providing duty-free treatment for up to 66 products from Nepal, such as luggage and briefcases, handbags, carpets, shawls and scarves, hats, gloves and needlecraft kits.
   The ITC will hold a public hearing related the investigation at its Washington headquarters on June 9, starting 9:30 a.m. It will also take written submissions for the record by June 24. For more details, access the ITC’s website here.
