ITC: U.S. makers hurt by washers from South Korea, Mexico

   The U.S. International Trade Commission has determined that there is a “reasonable indication” domestic manufacturers of large residential washers imported from South Korea are allegedly subsidized and sold in the United States at less than fair value. 
   The ITC also determined similar washers imported from Mexico, while not subsidized, are also sold at less than fair value in the United States.
   The commission made its determination in a 4-1 vote on Friday.
   As a result, the Commerce Department will continue its investigations of imports of these products, with its preliminary countervailing duty determination regarding South Korea due by March 24, and its preliminary antidumping duty determinations regarding both South Korea and Mexico due on June 7.
   The ITC started its investigation on Dec. 30 after receiving a petition from Whirlpool Corp. of Benton Harbor, Mich. There are six washer producers in the United States with plants in Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, and Wisconsin.
