Jakarta truck protest set for Friday

Truckers in the capital city of Indonesia are planning a strike Friday to protest a ban on heavy-duty and container trucks operating on certain inner-city roads, according to media reports from Jakarta.

The protest would involve an estimated 16,000 trucks that are part of the Indonesia’s Organization of Land Transportation Owners (Organda).

The ban, according to the Jakarta Globe, prohibits large trucks from using certain toll roads in the city between 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. The month-long ban began on May 10.

A notice from Hellmann Logistics’ Jakarta office said, 'there will be no activity, including loading and unloading of goods at the Port of Tanjung Priok from May 20 until further notice.'
