Jamaica planning port security upgrades The government of Jamaica has earmarked more than $500,000 for security system improvements at the ports of Kingston and Montego Bay.
   Jamaican Industry, Technology, Energy and Commerce Minister Phillip Paulwell said a Jamaican firm had been awarded a contract to upgrade closed circuit television (CCTV) systems already in place at the ports for the last two years.
   With the upgraded system, port security officials will have round-the-clock surveillance of access gates, container stations, ships in the ports, and perimeter areas.
   Paulwell said the upgrade was part of the country's program to achieve compliance with the International Maritime Organization's International Ship and Port Facility Code.
