Japanese forwarder to open Savannah DC

Japanese freight forwarder Mitsui-Soko (USA) Inc. will open a 60,000-square-foot distribution center near Savannah to take advantage of expected cargo growth at the Georgia ports, the news outlet Global Atlanta reported Thursday.

The center will become Mitsui-Soko’s primary East Coast distribution point, though it operates more than 1 million square feet of warehouse space in eight U.S. locations, the report said.

The company is banking on increased volume at the Port of Savannah as a result of the Panama Canal’s imminent expansion, said Ryuji Ikeda, president of Mitsui-Soko (USA), said in a statement.
