JAXPORT officially opens $30m on-dock rail terminal

The North Florida port’s new Intermodal Container Transfer Facility provides rail service to the Blount Island Marine Terminal and TraPac Container Terminal at Dames Point, connecting the terminals with Class I railway CSX’s main line.    The Port of Jacksonville, Fla. (JAXPORT) has officially opened its new $30 million on-dock rail terminal to commercial intermodal traffic, the port said in a statement.
JAXPORT’s Intermodal Container Transfer Facility (ICTF) was constructed with $20 million in funding from the state of Florida and $10 million in federal TIGER grant funds.
ICTF provides rail service to the Blount Island Marine Terminal and TraPac Container Terminal at Dames Point, connecting the container terminals with the main line of Jacksonville-based Class I railway CSX Transportation.
According to the North Florida port, ICTF will offer shippers greater options and efficiencies by speeding the transfer of intermodal containers between vessels and trains that carry them out of the port. Ceres Rail Services will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations at ICTF, which allows for two unit trains each day to connect with the CSX main line.
