JAXPORT starts service as Volkswagen’s Southeastern hub

Nearly 1,000 new VW Jettas, Beetles and Golfs arrived at the port Wednesday.

   JAXPORT has received its first shipment of cars as the Southeastern U.S. distribution hub for automobile manufacturer Volkswagen. Nearly 1,000 new VW Jettas, Beetles and Golfs arrived at the North Florida port Wednesday on the roll-on/roll-off vessel Chesapeake Highway.
   The cars, produced at VW’s factory in Puebla, Mexico factory, will be processed by AMPORTS before being transported to dealerships throughout the region.
   A second ocean vessel from Europe is scheduled to arrive Thursday with a shipment of 748 Volkswagen, Audi and Bentley model vehicles.
   Located in Jacksonville, Fla., JAXPORT is one of the U.S.’s top vehicle handling ports and the number one vehicle export port in the country.
