Jewell to lead MEBA
Union members of the Marine Engineers' Beneficial Association have overwhelmingly voted for Mike Jewell as their next president, effective Jan. 1.
The 90-day election results became available on Dec. 6 with Jewell defeating current president Donald Keefe. MEBA represents about 4,000 members including deck and engine officers as well as several shore-side support units.
Jewell is a graduate of James Madison University and the Calhoon Engineer Cadet Program. He began his sailing career in 1982 and worked on a variety of ships. He is also a 28-year member of the U.S. Naval Reserve and holds the rank of captain.
