JFK Airport spending to reduce delays

JFK Airport spending to reduce delays Port Authority of New York and New Jersey commissioners approved $376.3 million in spending on improvements at John F. Kennedy International Airport to reduce delays and reconstruct widen a 2.75-mile runway that is one of the longest in the country.
   Work will begin in June and be completed in 2011. The delay reduction program includes projects such as:
   ' Construction of additional access points on nearby taxiways.
   ' New taxiways that will improve aircraft queuing and enable swifter departures.
   ' Easier access from taxiways to terminal gates.
   The authority’s board also approved $13 million for planning modernization of the Goethals Bridge, one of the spans between Staten Island and New Jersey. The bridge is used heavily by trucks moving containers to and from the New York Container Terminal at Howland Hook.
