Jumbo orders another heavy-lift ship

   Jumbo Shipping, a leading transporter of oversized and heavy cargoes, said it has ordered a second new “K-class” ship, with an option for a third.
   The company said it has also decided to upgrade the lifting capacity of the vessel cranes from 1,300 to 1,500 metric tons, enabling tandem lifts of 3,000 metric tons. The company’s current fleet of 12 ships are capable of tandem lifts ranging from 500 to 1,800 tons.
   The ships are being built at the Brodosplit shipyard in Split, Croatia. The design incorporates the Finnish-Swedish ice class 1A and are “thus ideal for projects in Arctic regions,” the company said.
   The company said the first of the ships will be in active service by fall of 2013. The sister-ship will follow about six months later.
