“K” LINE ORDERS FOUR MORE 5,500-TEU SHIPS

“K” Line has ordered four additional 5500-TEU post-Panamax containerships which are identical to the eight vessels ordered at the end of last year.

The four additional vessels will be built by Hyundai Heavy Industries of Korea and Imabari Shipbuilding of Japan. They will be delivered between March and September 2002. The four vessels will have a service speed of 25 knots.

“K” Line said that it will deploy the new ships in its Asia-North America and Asia-Europe container services together with the eight previously-ordered sister ships.

They will replace 3,500-TEU type containerships presently deployed. In turn, the 3,500-TEU units will be moved to other “K” Line Asia-North America services.
