“K” Line ties up coal transport deal to India

'K' Line has tied up a seven-year contract with Indian steel corporation JSW Steel Ltd., the Japanese carrier said Monday.

The contract calls for 'K' Line to deliver 500,000 tons of coal annually from eastern Australia to India, beginning in January, with seven voyages a year scheduled.

JSW Steel Limited is the core company of the O.P. Jindal Group and produced roughly 3.8 million tons of crude steel in 2006. The contract announced Monday is the first between JSW and 'K' Line.
