Kalitta Air helps launch NY-Amsterdam service

   Inter Aviation Services and the HAE Group, with the help of Kalitta Air, will launch a twice-weekly Boeing 747-400 roundtrip, freighter service between New York and Amsterdam on March 9.
   The flights will focus on gaining marketshare in the outsize cargo industry. The parties said they expect oil and gas equipment, auto parts and specialized cargo, such as horses, to fill the main deck of the plane.
   “Our extensive market research has shown that there is a strong demand for scheduled main-deck B747 freighter services linking the prime commercial hubs of New York and Amsterdam both eastbound and westbound,” HAE and IAS said in a joint statement.
   Kalitta, which is based in Michigan, recently won a $2 million Michigan Business Development Program grant to help fund a $9.7 million airplane hangar in Oscoda Charter Township. The 80,000-square-foot hangar will join the company’s current facility at the township’s airport.
