KCS, Norfolk Southern joint venture gets green light

   Kansas City Southern and Norfolk Southern Corp. have cleared all the regulatory reviews for their proposed joint venture on the Meridian Speedway rail connection after the U.S. Surface Transportation Board Monday passed its environmental review.

   KCS will own 70 percent of the joint venture company and contribute the 320-mile rail line between Meridian, Miss. and Shreveport, La.. Norfolk Southern will control the remaining 30 percent and invest $300 million for capacity enhancements such as extended sidings and stretches of double track.
