Kerry to builds Xiamen logistics center
China-based Kerry Logistics said Wednesday it will build a new 42,000-square-meter logistics center in Xiamen, to take advantage of growing trade between the southeastern Chinese coastal city and Taiwan.
'Demand for warehousing and value-added services for cross-strait trade is growing quickly and this development is a key component in our strategy to maximize opportunities,' said Edwardo Erni, managing director, Mainland China for Kerry Logistics.
Taiwan is the eighth-largest export market for Xiamen, the mainland city nearest to Taiwan, Kerry said. Trade volume between Fujian Province, where Xiamen is located, and Taiwan in 2008 reached $7.5 billion, up 56 percent year-on-year. Of that, Xiamen’s trade volume was $3.8 billion, up 25 percent.
