Khouri sworn in as FMC commissioner

Khouri sworn in as FMC commissioner    The Federal Maritime Commission said today Michael A. Khouri of Louisville, Ky., has been sworn in as a commissioner for a term to expire on June 30, 2011.

   Khouri was nominated by President Barack Obama on Dec. 3 and confirmed by the Senate on Dec. 24.
   He comes to the FMC after working for 35 years for barge companies and as an attorney, most recently at Pedley & Gordinier in Louisville. where he focused on transportation and maritime law.
   Khouri began his career as a deck crewman for Paducah, Ky.-based Crounse Corp., where he worked his way up to towboat captain. He then spent 23 years at Jeffersonville, Ind.-based barge company American Commercial Lines, where he held a number of executive positions including general counsel, senior vice president for law and corporate Affairs, and senior vice president for transportation services-marine operations. He then was president and chief operating officer of MERS/Economy Boat, a Memphis-based maritime fuels and ship chandler before joining Pedley & Gordinier.
