Kronos buys U.K. logistics company

   Kronos Inc., which develops workforce management and optimization software, is furthering its reach in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) through the acquisition of United Kingdom-based SMART Computer Holdings and its affiliate SMART Human Logistics.
   While financial terms were not disclosed, the company did say it was a cash transaction.
   Kronos, based in Chelmsford, Mass., likely made the purchase to gain access to SMART’s cloud-based and on-site services focused on management challenges, manufacturing, and distribution centers. Kronos will also gain SMART’s customers including its U.K. National Health Service (NHS) selection.
   Speaking on the acquisition, the company said it was looking forward to developing the NHS market and that SMART would now give it a first physical presence in Spain.
   Recently, Kronos also paid cash for SaaShr.com LLC and its parent company, WebApps Inc. Based in Branchburg, N.J., SaaShr runs a software-as-a-service (SaaS) workforce management suite for small and mid-sized businesses. WebApps operates and is also known as Saas.com, and provides a variety of cloud services to companies.
   Aron Ain, chief executive officer of Kronos, has recently made public statements saying the goal for his company is to reach 30 percent of its business outside of the global market.
