KUEHNE & NAGEL ADOPTS XML STANDARDS

Kuehne & Nagel has implemented extensible markup language standards and industry-specific definition of document types for its electronic data transfers.

The Swiss group said it is one of the first companies in the industry to introduce XML standards for the processing of international logistics and forwarding orders.

“The introduction of the XML standard will result in a substantial reduction of cost, because data transmission via the Internet can be executed at a much lower cost and is therefore also affordable for small and middle sized companies,” said Thomas Engel, chief information officer and member of the board of Kuehne & Nagel International AG.

K&N said its definition of document types (DTD) standards for international forwarding orders were developed in cooperation with the EDIFOR organization set up by Bundesverband Spedition und Logistik, the German forwarding and logistics federation.
