Kuehne + Nagel opens Bielefeld, Germany logistics center
Kuehne + Nagel on Saturday consolidated its Bielefeld, Germany, branch activities with the opening of a 75,000-square-meter logistics center.
The site, built in eight months, features 22,000 square meters of warehousing and handling space, office premises, and accommodates 450 staff. The activities in Bielefeld were previously conducted at two separate sites.
In 2005, Kuehne + Nagel acquired Bielefeld-based company Gebr. M'nkem'ller GmbH & Co. KG., and the Bielefeld branch now handles some 5,000 domestic and international shipments in and out per working day.
'The commissioning of this state-of-the-art logistics facility underpins Kuehne + Nagel's growth strategy in Bielefeld, a location that for many decades has played an important role in our activities in Germany,' said Klaus-Michael Kuehne, executive chairman of Kuehne + Nagel.
'Furthermore, the center testifies to the successful merger of two complementary companies under one brand. Our customers benefit from a comprehensive, integrated logistics offering and efficient management of operational processes. With our premium logistics service we are making our contribution to the strengthening of the business location Bielefeld and the Ostwestfalen region.'
