L.A.-Long Beach gets federal ombudsman

The Southern California ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach will gain a federal ombudsman to monitor cargo conditions for the U.S. Transportation Secretary and Maritime Administrator.

The ombudsman appointment is part of the U.S. Transportation Department’s “Southern California Gateway Initiative,” which includes the opening of a Long Beach office to provide the federal government with up-to-date information about growth and problems facing the ports and their customers.
