La. shipper fined $132,791 for illegal exports to Iran

La. shipper fined $132,791 for illegal exports to Iran    A Louisiana-based company has agreed to pay the U.S. Commerce Department’s Bureau of Industry and Security a $132,791 civil penalty for illegally exporting a U.S.-origin software program controlled for antiterrorism reasons through Brazil to Iran without the required government approval.
BIS alleges that Engineering Dynamics Inc. (EDI) made the shipments between March 1995 and February 2007. The agency said EDI and its co-conspirators used a scheme to market, sell and service the engineering software program to Iranian clients through a Brazilian co-conspirator.
“We will actively pursue, prosecute and punish those who violate U.S. law and illegally export to Iran, a state sponsor of terrorism,” said Undersecretary of Commerce Mario Mancuso in a statement.
In a related action, the Justice Department said EDI’s owners, James C. Angeher and John N. Fowler, pled guilty on April 24 in New Orleans to one count of information charging them with conspiracy to violate the International Emergency Economic Powers Act and the Iranian Transactions Regulations.
