Lakeland frets over impact of siting CSX hub at Winter Haven
Lakeland City wants the Florida Department of Transportation to review all alternative routes to prevent increased CSX rail traffic through its downtown.
According to The Ledger newspaper, the city commission approved a resolution on Monday calling for a rail traffic review if the new CSX rail hub at nearby Winter Haven should go forward.
The proposed Winter Haven site is included in a $491 million deal to purchase 61 miles of track from CSX for use in Orlando’s planned commuter rail. “The combination of the new center and a shift in freight traffic is expected to bring more trains through downtown Lakeland,” The Ledger reported.
