Last of Maersk’s PS-class giants named

Last of Maersk’s PS-class giants named A.P. Moller – Maersk on Saturday named the last of its eight PS-class container vessels, Eugen Maersk, at its Odense Steel Shipyard in Lindo, Denmark.

   The 157,000-deadweight-ton vessels are the biggest of their type in the world with a length of 397.7 meters (1,304.8 feet) and beam of 56.4 meters (185 feet). A 14-cylinder W'rtsil' RT-flex diesel engine produces 110,000 horsepower, giving a service speed of about 25 knots.
   The Danish group has given the vessels a declared capacity of 11,000 TEUs, although they are believed to have a physical capacity closer to 15,000 TEUs. Seven of the vessels are shown operating on the sailing schedule of Maersk’s weekly Asia/Europe and Med AE7 service.
