Le Havre box volume down 8.3% through 3Q

Container volume at the Port of Le Havre has dropped 8.3 percent in the first nine months of 2009, the port said Thursday.

The French port handled 1.65 million TEUs through the first three quarters of the year, compared to 1.8 million in the same period in 2008. By tonnage, container cargo dropped by a higher margin, 9.4 percent to 16.3 million tons.

Le Havre officials said the port has also seen tonnage drops in other commodities it handles, notably liquid bulk and dry bulk. The port didn't specify how far those volumes have fallen.
