Leonard takes command of Army’s SDDC

Leonard takes command of ArmyÆs SDDC    The U.S. Defense Department on Wednesday that Maj. Gen. Kevin A. Leonard has been appointed to commanding general of the Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command (SDDC).
   Leonard replaces Maj. Gen. James L. Hodge, who will command the Sustainment Center of Excellence at Fort Lee, Va. Hodge took command of SDDC June 30, 2008.
   Leonard has served in a variety of joint and operational assignments, most recently as deputy chief of staff for operations at the Army Materiel Command in Fort Belvoir, Va.; and commanding general of the Army Central Command's 1st Sustainment Command (Theater) at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait.
   'Leonard takes command of SDDC at the beginning of a new era for the command. This is the first time in the command’s 45-year history that the entire headquarters is housed in one location,' the U.S. Transportation Command said in a statement.
   SDDC is the Army component of TRANSCOM and is responsible for strategic surface transportation and distribution for the Defense Department. With more than 4,500 personnel worldwide, SDDC’s headquarters officially relocated to its new home at Scott Air Force Base, Ill., completing the actions mandated by the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) commission.
