Lidinsky will become FMC chairman

Richard A. Lidinsky Jr. of Baltimore will serve as chairman of the U.S. Federal Maritime Commission.

President Barack Obama appointed Lidinsky as a commissioner earlier in June. He was confirmed July 24 by the Senate, and sworn in Aug. 7. His term expires June 30, 2012.

Lidinsky comes to the commission as a 37-year veteran in the maritime industry. He has worked as an attorney, an international trade consultant and as an executive at the container leasing company Sea Containers and the Maryland Port Administration.

Early in his career he was a congressional aide on the U.S. House of Representatives Merchant Marine and Fisheries Committee and a legislative counsel at the FMC.
