The German grocer has partnered with the grocery delivery service provider Shipt to provide app-based grocery shopping and delivery in the Greenville, S.C. area.
German grocer Lidl has launched a pilot program partnership with online grocery delivery service Shipt in Greenville, S.C. to deliver groceries to area residents, Lidl confirmed to American Shipper.
The pilot was launched Oct. 19 and will utilize Shipt’s delivery app.
“We are committed to being a life-enhancing grocery store – one where customers can compromise less around quality, price and convenience,” said Senior Project Manager Zara Khaleeli. “Our pilot program with Shipt is an exciting extension of this mission. We look forward to offering customers in Greenville, South Carolina another avenue to experience Lidl’s high quality products.”
Lidl previously announced in June its plans to open a fourth regional headquarters and distribution center outside of Atlanta, with its first three located in Virginia, North Carolina, Maryland and Georgia. The German grocer also has plans for more brick-and-mortar store locations in the U.S. as well. The move to an online shopping experience was not part of the company’s original plan, however, Lidl is currently competing with fellow German grocer Aldi for a place in the U.S. market.
According to the Greenville-based Upstate Business Journal, Shipt will offer discounted annual memberships to Lidl customers – instead of the usual $99 membership fee, Lidl shoppers can utilize Shipt’s app for $49. Orders can be placed an hour before delivery, which is unlimited and free on orders over $35.

According to Upstate Business Journal, Shipt plans to hire shoppers in Greenville to support the new partnership and to ensure complete, accurate fulfillment of each order.
